The Marvo International Music Festival is held in the midst of unique and unforgettable scenery at the summit of the highest mountain south of the Tagus, in the walled town of Marvo.
The renowned German maestro Christoph Poppen idealized the first classical music festival in Marvo. In July of 2014 his dream came to fruition offering moments of awe and pure magic to all present where only the ideal settings were surpassed by the quality of the performers. News of this event spread far and wide, calling out for an encore.
The village of Marvo in the Alentejo is one of the most beautiful places in Portugal. Here you find the perfect combination of the towns architecture and its proud castle with the surrounding landscape of the Serra de So Mamede. Its vast horizons and peaceful background, offer truly idyllic scenery for an outdoor music festival, where century old infrastructures are put to good use. It was here, amongst the rare natural beauty of Marvo, that Christoph Poppen felt the urge to combine his love of classical music with a land seeped with history and create a high quality classical music festival.
